A Peculiar Trip to Laughter
A Homecare Solutions employee shared a humorous moment on a Christmas morning with a loved one we serve. “Everything was very quiet that morning. It was our second Christmas together and I was on my knees helping her put support stockings on,” she said. That’s when things got a little crazy. “I somehow lost my balance, tripped over, and landed softly on the floor.” Things were no longer silent as the loved one started laughing. The Homecare Solutions employee began laughing as well, even though she was slightly embarrassed by the incident. “I have learned how to look past my own needs and how to really help someone else out,” she said. “Helping others is the most rewarding part of my job, especially knowing that I am helping to make a difference in someone else’s life.”
The Little Things Make a Difference
One of our Homecare Solutions employees knows that you can’t take what you do for granted. “I monitor food for freshness, open and sort junk mail, answer the door and telephone, do general shopping, provide medication reminders, do laundry, help with meals, and even set the table so they feel like they’re in a restaurant setting,” she said. By doing her job skillfully and with a smile on her face, she makes every one of her clients feel special. “One of my clients felt that I was the only one who knew how to do the laundry. I had to explain to her that all the staff could do the same thing.” Certainly all of our staff can do the laundry, but according to this particular client, only this caregiver provides that perfect touch!
Her Little Angel Named Gloria
Sometimes the happiness, love and dedication a Homecare Solutions employee brings into the home are simply overwhelming. Such was the case when a loved one referred to an employee as “her little angel.” Because of her commitment to meeting the needs of this loved one, she’s had a hard time leaving at the end of her day. “I don’t want to give her up. She’s just great and I don’t want to share her with anyone.” Fortunately for other family members out there, we have a staff of angels like Gloria and are more than willing to share.
Once a Teacher, Always a Teacher
A 79-year-old loved one has inspired a Homecare Solutions employee to do her job to the best of her ability. “This woman I care for is so sweet, kind and gentle,” she said. “We often talk about years-gone-by when she was a school teacher and just loved her job.” The loved one told her caregiver, “as long as you set your mind to doing something, you will succeed.” The Homecare Solutions employee has taken the advice to heart. “It’s really amazing,” she said. “Even while retired at 79 she’s still teaching wonderful things. You just never can be too old to make new friends and learn new things.” |
