Care giving for those with Alzheimer’s is an extensive task that takes a great combination of training, patience, love, compassion and skill. It’s demanding to care for one with Alzheimer’s. It affects you emotionally and physically. Family members often take on the caregiver role, and more times than not they will need assistance.

Our Alzheimer’s care isn’t really a separate service. Rather, it depends on the services one needs. Alzheimer’s patients may need a Personal Care Assistant, Home Companion or Transportation services. Furthermore, Alzheimer’s patients might need something as minimal as Bathing Services at this stage of the disease or something as extensive as Live-in services at a more advanced stage. We’ve said it many times, and we’ll say it again, "We tailor to meet your loved one’s needs and we use the same approach in providing compassionate Alzheimer’s Homecare Solutions."

We know how important it is for staff to understand the disease, the effects it has on your loved one, and how to provide necessary care. That is why all of our caregivers undergo extensive training at our Educational Institute. Our comprehensive, two-day Alzheimer’s workshop features interactive training, role playing, group discussion, films, testing and a Virtual Dementia Tour that allows participants to assume the role of someone with Alzheimer’s.

We also utilize our involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association, the largest voluntary health organization supporting Alzheimer’s research and care. We also are affiliated with the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center. These two relationships have helped us create successful programs and develop a competent staff that is first-rate.

	Lastly, when a loved one reaches a stage of the disease where they need far more care, Rest Haven’s continuum of care includes Alzheimer’s Gilead Care Units, where a proven activity-based program is utilized in the caring of your loved one. We develop specific care plans for those with Alzheimer’s by carefully assessing their symptoms, making detailed plans, and meeting their unique needs. We do this by group involvement. Our staff, your family, and your loved one are all involved in the process and implementation of our program.
